This dive site features the Yealat Wreck, a former tourist ship equipped with glass windows at its bottom. While the recreational dive site has a maximum depth of 27 meters and an average depth of approximately 13 meters, the wreck itself is reported to be situated much deeper, at 48-55 meters. This implies that recreational divers typically explore the shallower parts of the wreck or its immediate surroundings up to 27m, offering a glimpse of this interesting artificial reef. The wreck is located about 500 meters north of Eilat's underwater observatory and is close to the buoy marking the famous Japanese Gardens.
The Yealat Wreck and its vicinity are home to a variety of marine life. Divers can expect to encounter vibrant Sea goldie fish, various Muraena eels, Bluespotted ribbontail rays, Redtoothed triggerfish, and Whiptail stingrays. The site is also known for sightings of majestic Sea turtles, making it a rewarding spot for observing larger marine animals.
Eilat offers excellent diving conditions year-round, so the best time to visit the Yealat Wreck is largely dependent on personal preference for surface conditions. Divers should be mindful of their depth limits, especially given the actual depth of the wreck, and ensure proper planning. For experienced freedivers, the site's maximum recreational depth of 27 meters offers a challenging yet rewarding experience to explore parts of the wreck.
