This dive site, Dekel Beach, is situated between Eilat's city center and port, serving as one of the busiest public beaches in the Israeli Red Sea. Unlike the more famous southern reefs, Dekel Beach features a sandy slope dotted with small coral patches. Underwater navigation is straightforward, following the gentle slope and exploring the scattered coral formations.
Despite the absence of a large coral reef, the small coral patches and sandy substrate host surprisingly rich marine life. Divers and snorkelers can expect to encounter various small reef fish, crustaceans, and other invertebrates adapted to this environment. The sparse corals themselves provide a habitat for numerous smaller species, offering good opportunities for macro observation.
Dekel Beach is suitable for year-round visits, with pleasant Red Sea water temperatures. It is particularly ideal for beginner divers, snorkelers, and those looking for a relaxed, shallow water experience. Its easy shore access and minimal depth make it an excellent spot for training dives or families exploring the underwater world. Freedivers will also find the shallow depths perfect for practice and enjoyment.
