About this dive site

The Molas Shipwreck is one of the most iconic wreck dives around Manado, resting between Bunaken Island and the mainland coast. Believed to be a Dutch cargo vessel that sank during World War II, the wreck now lies upright on a sandy slope at depths ranging from approximately 26 to 38 metres. Over the decades, the ship has transformed into an artificial reef covered in soft corals, black coral, and colourful nudibranchs.

The upper structures begin around 22–26 m, while the propellers and stern descend to about 38–40 m, making it a rewarding site for Advanced Open Water divers and deep diving enthusiasts. Visibility generally ranges from 10–25 m depending on rainfall and tides, as nearby river runoff can occasionally reduce clarity.

Marine life here is diverse and constantly changing. Divers frequently encounter schools of barracuda, batfish, napoleon wrasse, groupers, sweetlips, ribbon moray eels, mantis shrimp, leaf fish, reef sharks, and an impressive variety of macro life hiding among the corals and wreckage. Lucky divers may even spot manta rays cruising past the structure.
