This dive site, known as The Maze, is a unique underwater labyrinth characterized by a distinctive maze-like channel structure. Divers navigate through these intricate channels, which offer a fascinating topographical experience. While there's no specific historical account provided, the site's natural formation creates a captivating exploration opportunity, starting from a shallower reef section before opening into a deeper sandy expanse beyond the buoys.
The shadowy nature of The Maze creates ideal habitats for a variety of marine life. Divers can expect to encounter various Triggerfish species, including Black Surgeonfish and the vibrant Queen Triggerfish. The darker nooks and crannies are home to Lionfish, Lobsters, Spotted Drums, and well-camouflaged Scorpionfish. A healthy reef environment supports various hard and soft corals, providing shelter and sustenance for the diverse fish and invertebrate species.
The Maze can be visited throughout the year, with optimal conditions typically aligning with the dry season for best visibility. It's an excellent site for divers of all levels due to its varied depths, from a shallow 15ft (4.5m) reef top to a maximum of 24 meters. Freedivers will particularly enjoy the shallower sections and the moderate depths, offering ample opportunity for exploration on a single breath. Divers should be mindful of the potentially camouflaged scorpionfish and the thorny lionfish.
