This dive site, Joshua Swash, is primarily experienced as a drift dive along a vibrant plateau. The underwater topography features porous sea rods, various sponges, and a rich array of soft corals. Intersecting this plateau are intriguing sand channels and swim-throughs that run perpendicular to the coastline, gently sloping from about 45 feet (13.7 meters) down to 70 feet (21.3 meters). Further to the East, two shallower sand channels can be explored, ranging in depth from 45 feet (13.7 meters) to a mere 15 feet (4.5 meters), offering diverse exploration opportunities.
The marine life at Joshua Swash is abundant and varied. Divers can encounter larger species such as Nurse Sharks and Green Moray Eels, often seen in and around the coral formations. The area is also well-known for its impressive coral structures, including Giant Barrel Sponges, Elkhorn Coral, and Black Ball Sponges. Schools of fish are a common sight, with Bluestriped Grunt, Black Durgeon, and Schoolmaster frequently observed darting through the channels and over the reef.
Joshua Swash is a great dive site to visit year-round, offering consistent marine encounters. Its combination of drift diving, swim-throughs, and diverse marine life makes it a highlight for divers of varying experience levels, particularly those comfortable with moderate currents.
