This dive site, known as Iron Bound, is located on the northeast side of the island of Roatan, requiring a boat trip of approximately 45 minutes from most dive centers. It features an intriguing wall that descends to a maximum of 19 meters (70 feet), eventually opening up to expansive sandy stretches. Divers can explore interesting swim-throughs and overhangs, creating a scenic and engaging underwater landscape.
The site is home to a variety of marine animals. Keep an eye out for larger pelagic species such as Barracudas and Tarpons patrolling the wall, alongside schools of Grunts. In the sandy areas, Stingrays can often be spotted resting on the seabed, adding to the diversity of marine encounters.
The best time to visit Iron Bound is generally during Roatan's dry season, typically from February to September, when visibility is often at its best. Its shallow average depth and interesting features like swim-throughs make it highly suitable for both scuba divers of all experience levels and freedivers. For divers, remember to explore the sandy bottom for resting stingrays and enjoy the unique topography of the wall and overhangs.
