This dive site features the intriguing wreck of a 6-passenger single-engine plane that went down in 2021, with all passengers surviving the incident. Lying flat on the sandy bottom at approximately 24 meters, with a maximum dive depth of 22 meters, the plane offers a straightforward and easily navigable dive. Its relatively recent sinking means the wreck's structure is largely intact, presenting an interesting visual subject.
Currently, the marine life around this new airplane wreck is sparse as the ecosystem is still establishing itself. However, it is anticipated to become a favored spot for invasive lionfish due to its structure providing shelter. Divers may also encounter various transient reef fish typical of the surrounding waters as the wreck begins to act as an artificial reef.
The best time to visit this dive site for optimal conditions generally aligns with the dry season in Honduras, from February to September, offering excellent visibility. Divers are encouraged to bring a spear to assist in lionfish culling, contributing to marine conservation efforts. This site is particularly suitable for divers looking to explore a relatively untouched wreck and observe its evolution into a marine habitat.
