This dive site, the Pigeon Islands, also known as “Réserve Cousteau”, is a renowned protected area within the Guadeloupe National Park since 2009. Located less than a mile from Bouillante and Malendure beach, it is only accessible by boat. Divers explore the vibrant seabed around these two tiny islets, famous for their unique marine concentration.
The site boasts magnificent elkhorn and staghorn corals covering the seabed, providing a habitat for a large number of colorful reef fish species, including angelfish, parrotfish, and butterflyfish. Sea turtles are also frequently spotted gliding gracefully among the corals.
The Pigeon Islands are excellent for both divers and snorkelers year-round, though avoiding the hurricane season (July-November) is advisable. Its shallow average depth of 6 meters makes it perfect for extended bottom times and relaxed exploration of its thriving ecosystem.
