This dive site is the Hildur, a wreck deliberately sunk in 2007 to create an artificial reef near the Grand Mal wall. She rests at a maximum depth of 33 meters (120 ft), offering divers a unique exploration experience. The wreck allows for penetrations, particularly into the cargo hold, though divers should be mindful of potential silt.
The Hildur has become a thriving ecosystem, home to impressive marine life. Divers can expect to encounter huge black coral trees, various deep-water corals, and sponges. Large barracuda, schools of schoolmasters, and vibrant angelfish are commonly seen, along with stingrays. Intriguing artifacts like fire extinguishers from the original vessel are still present.
While the best time to visit isn't specified, Grenada offers year-round diving. Divers are advised to maintain excellent buoyancy, especially when exploring the cargo hold, to avoid disturbing the silt and compromising visibility. Its depth and wreck characteristics make it more suitable for intermediate to advanced divers and freedivers capable of deeper dives. The site offers great opportunities for wide-angle photography.
