This dive site, known as Wintertauchplatz Sorpesee, offers a unique freshwater diving experience. Divers can enjoy a shallow entry directly from a campsite, leading to a wonderful steep wall that drops to a designated maximum depth of 24 meters within the dive site, although the wall itself extends deeper to about 34 meters. Navigation involves a short swim from the entry towards the middle of the lake to reach this prominent wall and discover various wrecks.
The aquatic life here includes diverse fish species such as walleye, pike, and redfish, thriving among extensive seaweed beds. At dusk, divers often encounter eels and crabs. The wrecks also provide habitat for various smaller creatures, contributing to the site's biodiversity.
While the name suggests winter diving, the site offers appealing features year-round. Divers must register before diving. It's suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers, with the steep wall providing depth challenges, and the shallow areas appealing for snorkelers. Tips include being prepared for potentially cooler lake temperatures, especially in colder months.
