This dive site, Einstieg 5 at Kreidesee Hemmoor, offers a unique freshwater diving experience in a former chalk quarry. From the entrance, divers can explore a steep wall dropping towards the lake's bottom, which reaches approximately 55m. A little further on, starting at 35m, lies the distinctive 'male forest' of scrawny trees. To the right of the entrance is a former fish farm, which has been accessible for diving since 2021, providing interesting structures to explore.
The site features significant algae growth in its upper areas, providing habitat for various freshwater species. Divers can commonly encounter perch, rudd, and trout, with the occasional sighting of an eel. Crabs are also present, adding to the smaller marine life found at this dive site.
The best time to visit Kreidesee Hemmoor generally depends on temperature preferences, with summer offering warmer surface temperatures but potentially reduced visibility due to algal blooms. This site is suitable for both recreational divers and freedivers, with its varied depths and intriguing features like the wall and fish farm. Divers should be prepared for cold water, especially in deeper sections or outside summer months, and good buoyancy control is recommended for exploring the steep wall.
