This dive site, Brückelsee, is a former brown coal opencast mine located in Germany. Entry is from the bank via a small slope, which carries a risk of slipping. The site offers diverse depths, with flat areas suitable for beginners, reaching approximately 18 meters in the general dive area. For experienced divers and experts, the lake plunges to a maximum depth of 55 meters, providing opportunities for deeper exploration.
The underwater environment is characterized by nice vegetation, which adds to the aesthetic appeal. However, due to the acidic pH value typical of former brown coal opencast mines, there are unfortunately almost no fish to be seen, limiting the marine animal encounters to primarily plant life and potentially some very resilient small invertebrates.
The Brückelsee is suitable for both beginners exploring its shallower sections and advanced divers seeking its greater depths. No specific best time to visit is indicated, but freshwater diving in Germany often means colder water, so appropriate thermal protection is recommended. Beginners should be mindful of the slippery entry, while those attempting deeper dives must be adequately trained and equipped for the substantial depth.
