This dive site, known to local divers as “Blanki”, is the Blankenburg Lake, a 21.5 hectare rectangular quarry lake. It was originally excavated for highway construction but has since become a popular spot for fishing, swimming, and diving. Access is convenient, with an entrance available on the north bank, reachable via a trail from the parking lot. Underwater navigation is generally straightforward due to its defined quarry structure.
Divers can expect to encounter typical freshwater inhabitants. With a visibility ranging from 3-5 meters, perch, rudd, and various types of crabs are commonly spotted. Notably, the lake is home to large, resident pike that often frequent the reedy and branched areas along the banks, offering exciting encounters for divers.
While a specific best time to visit isn't detailed, freshwater lakes in Germany are generally good for diving during warmer months for comfort, though visibility might be better in cooler seasons. It is an excellent site for beginners, training dives, and those looking for local freshwater experiences. Freedivers will also find the shallow depths and calm conditions suitable for practice.
