This dive site, Plage Vaiava, affectionately known as “PK18”, stands as Tahiti's most celebrated beach on its western coast. It is a highly popular destination for both tourists and locals, renowned for its pristine white sand and exceptionally calm, shallow waters. The underwater environment comprises a superb lagoon dotted with numerous coral patches, which are easily accessible and simple to navigate directly from the shore.
Beneath the surface, these vibrant coral patches serve as a bustling ecosystem, supporting a diverse array of marine life. Snorkelers and very shallow divers can delight in observing many colorful reef fish, including the striking parrotfish, the graceful butterflyfish, and the ever-present damselfish, all thriving within this sheltered aquatic habitat.
The ideal time to visit Plage Vaiava is during the dry season (May to October) when conditions are typically calmest and sunniest, although its protected nature makes it enjoyable year-round. Given its minimal depth of 2 meters, it is perfectly suited for families, snorkelers, and absolute beginner divers seeking a relaxed and visually rewarding experience. Freedivers can also enjoy short, leisurely breath-hold explorations of the shallow reef.
