This dive site, known as Sharky, is located approximately 40 minutes by boat from St François in Guadeloupe, France, nestled between the scenic Pointe des Châteaux and La Désirade. Divers navigate a rocky plateau characterized by numerous overhangs, which provide shelter and resting spots for marine life, most notably nurse sharks. The site offers a straightforward layout suitable for exploration.
The waters around Sharky are teeming with diverse marine species. Expect to encounter several nurse sharks, often found resting beneath the overhangs. The reef is home to vibrant Butterflyfish, Damselfish, and Sergeant majors. Other common sightings include the unique Balloonfish and Trunkfish, as well as the formidable Barracuda and the invasive Lionfish. Wrasse, Grouperfish, Gruntfish, and Squirrelfish add to the reef's rich biodiversity. Additionally, divers can spot various invertebrates like Lobster, Shrimp, and the distinctive Eiffel Crab.
Sharky is accessible year-round, but the dry season from December to May generally offers the most stable weather and best visibility. The highlight for divers is undoubtedly the frequent encounters with resting nurse sharks, making it an excellent location for wide-angle photography. With an average depth of 10 meters and a maximum of 20 meters, it is an ideal spot for both novice and experienced divers, as well as freedivers and snorkelers seeking rich marine life in a relatively shallow environment.
