This dive site, Roche à Balistes, is a vibrant coral reef located a 25-minute boat ride from shore in Guadeloupe, France. With a maximum depth of 15 meters, it features a distinct navigation pattern: divers typically explore the reef over a white sandy bottom on the outward journey, then return directly over the top of the coral structure. The site's accessible nature and clear reef structure make it a favorite for local dive operators.
The marine life here is rich and diverse, offering sightings of Black triggerfish, Cardinal fish, Grunts (Gorette), Surgeonfish, Porcupine fish (Diodon), Moray eels, Angelfish, Barracudas, Sergeant Majors, and Butterflyfish. Invertebrates include Lobsters, Spider crabs, and the Caribbean Mint mollusk, adding to the site's biodiversity and offering plenty of subjects for macro enthusiasts.
Roche à Balistes is an excellent spot for year-round diving due to the warm Caribbean waters. Its shallow depth and gentle conditions make it particularly suitable for beginner divers, photography enthusiasts focusing on both macro and wide-angle shots of the beautiful reef, and also an ideal spot for both snorkelers and freedivers seeking accessible underwater beauty.
