This dive site, known as South Sugarloaf (Pain de sucre Sud), is a renowned underwater pinnacle located off the coast of Saint Barthélemy. It is celebrated for offering engaging dives suitable for all experience levels, thanks to its clear waters and straightforward navigation around a prominent pinnacle. Divers can easily explore an accessible swim-through, a key feature of the site.
The site teems with marine life, including visible lobsters hidden within crevices and the occasional lionfish. One of its most striking features is the presence of large schools of barracudas, often seen circling the pinnacle. Beyond these, the reef environment supports a diverse array of colorful reef fish such as parrotfish, angelfish, and snapper, alongside various hard and soft corals that adorn the rock formations.
With an average depth of 9 meters and a maximum of 19 meters, Pain de sucre Sud is ideal for both scuba divers and freedivers, offering great visibility almost consistently throughout the year. The best time to visit is generally during the dry season (December to May) when conditions are most stable. Its beginner-friendly nature and vibrant ecosystem make it a highly recommended spot for underwater photography and marine life observation.
