This dive site is an artificial reef created from piles of concrete nozzles and large stones located in front of Barcares harbor, a short 5-minute boat trip away. It serves as a coastal protection structure against trawling, but has become a thriving underwater habitat. The site is designed to be relatively easy to navigate, with the structures providing clear points of reference. The site's history is recent, designed purely for its protective function, which unintentionally transformed into a successful artificial reef.
The marine life here is diverse and abundant. Divers and freedivers can expect to encounter octopuses, congers, galatheas, cicadas, sars, and mostelles, showcasing a mix of macro and larger species. The artificial structures provide excellent shelter and foraging grounds for these creatures.
The best time to visit is during the calmer months of summer and early autumn when the visibility is usually better and currents are less intense. However, this site is especially popular in strong winds as it is a sheltered location for dives in such conditions. Experienced freedivers can enjoy exploring the varied topography around the structures, while divers should be aware of potential currents and maintain proper buoyancy control. It's advisable to check the weather forecast and sea conditions before heading out.
