This dive site, Cala di u Grecu, is located within the Lavezzi Islands archipelago, part of the Bouches de Bonifacio International Marine Park. Established as a marine preserve for approximately 40 years, it boasts some of Corsica's most pristine underwater environments. The site comprises two generally sheltered bays, closest to the eastern jetty, offering calm conditions for exploration. Its long-standing protected status ensures a vibrant and untouched natural seascape.
Divers and snorkelers can expect to encounter diverse Mediterranean marine life. Common sightings include various species of damselfish, sea bream, wrasses, and small groupers inhabiting the rocky reefs and Posidonia seagrass meadows. Moray eels and octopuses can often be found hiding in crevices, while colorful invertebrates add to the rich tapestry of the underwater ecosystem.
The best time to visit Cala di u Grecu is during the warmer months, typically from late spring to early autumn, when water temperatures are most comfortable and surface conditions are usually calm. This site is exceptionally well-suited for snorkelers, freedivers, and beginner scuba divers due to its shallow depths, excellent visibility, and sheltered nature. It provides a perfect environment for underwater photography, particularly wide-angle shots of the pristine landscapes and macro photography of the abundant small creatures.
