This dive site, Cayo Levantado, is a small island situated southeast of the Samaná Peninsula in the Dominican Republic. It features a main private beach on its southern coast and a public access area with two beaches on its western side. The site is primarily known for easy snorkeling opportunities, allowing exploration around the island's shallow coastal waters, with designated snorkeling areas reaching a maximum depth of 4 meters.
Divers and snorkelers can expect to encounter decent marine diversity, including various Caribbean fish species. Common sightings include angelfish, butterflyfish, moray eels, and flounders, among many others that inhabit the shallow coral and sandy areas around the island.
Given its extremely shallow depths (maximum 4 meters, average 2 meters), Cayo Levantado is ideal for beginner snorkelers and freedivers. The site is accessible year-round, offering a relaxing underwater experience without strong currents. It's an excellent spot for families or those looking for a calm introduction to Caribbean marine life.
