This dive site is the Šífr quarry, a unique flooded slate quarry located near the small Czech village of Svobodné Heřmanice. Measuring approximately 500 meters long and 30-70 meters wide, it offers depths reaching 28 meters. The main attraction is a flooded diving caisson, alongside other intriguing submerged objects like a well and a telephone booth, providing unique navigation opportunities through man-made structures in a freshwater environment. The quarry is situated at an altitude of 450m above sea level.
Divers can observe several species of fish and crayfish inhabiting the quarry's waters. While not a vibrant coral reef, the aquatic life provides interesting macro photographic opportunities amidst the submerged slate landscape and artificial structures.
The quarry is suitable for diving year-round, though cold water gear (such as a drysuit) is highly recommended due to the typical temperatures in freshwater quarries. It's an excellent location for skill development, object exploration, and enjoying a unique inland dive experience for both scuba divers and freedivers.
