This dive site is centered around the Memories wreck, a 25-meter-long fishing vessel intentionally sunk in Coco Bay, Costa Rica. As the boat is too small for penetration, divers can circumnavigate the exterior, peering into the cabin to spot the captain's chair. The wreck serves as a vital artificial reef, attracting a significant amount of marine life and providing a straightforward, enjoyable underwater exploration.
The Memories wreck is renowned for the huge amount of juvenile fish seeking shelter within its structure. Divers can expect to encounter large schools of juvenile grunts, including spot tail, latin, and cortez species, as well as juvenile spadefish. Scorpionfish are often found camouflaged on the wreck, and various nudibranchs, such as the vibrant red tipped sea goddess, add to the macro diversity.
This dive site is an excellent year-round destination, particularly appealing to beginner divers and snorkelers due to its shallow average depth of 6 meters. Its sheltered location in Coco Bay typically ensures mild currents, making it a relaxing and safe dive. Photographers will appreciate the abundance of small marine life for macro shots and the scenic wreck for wide-angle opportunities.
