This dive site, known as Ladder Labyrinth Red, is characterized by a fascinating underwater topography of 10-foot coral and rock ridges that form an intricate labyrinth just seaward of the mooring. This unique structure gives the site its name and provides a natural playground for exploration. Heading east, the complex labyrinth transitions into a more structured environment featuring distinct lava flows interspersed with sand chutes, offering a varied and engaging dive experience.
The nooks and crannies within the labyrinth are teeming with macro life, making it an excellent spot to discover shrimp, crab, and lobsters. Beyond the ridges, divers can expect to encounter healthy populations of colorful reef fish, including Filefish, Chromis, and Schoolmasters, contributing to a vibrant and active marine ecosystem.
While specific peak times are not detailed, diving in Sint Eustatius generally offers excellent conditions year-round, with calm seas and good visibility. The site's relatively shallow maximum depth of 20 meters and an average depth of 10 meters make it suitable for divers of all levels, including beginners. Freedivers and snorkelers will also appreciate the shallower parts of the labyrinth, offering ample opportunity to explore the rich coral formations and observe marine life close to the surface.
