La Dania's Leap is an exhilarating drift dive experience on Bonaire, best suited for experienced divers. While primarily accessible by boat, adventurous divers can also initiate a unique shore entry, making a "leap" to begin their drift towards Karpata. The dive starts at La Dania's, requiring divers to navigate currents to reach Karpata for their exit, effectively exploring both sites in a single dive. For shore entries, a distinctive landmark is a pile of stacked rocks along the one-way road leading down to the water; caution is advised when driving slowly as there are no turnarounds. Divers can drop off gear and walk about 5 minutes back to La Dania's to begin.
The site features a stunning steep wall that descends to approximately 30 meters, transitioning into a sandy plateau before dropping off again to about 60 meters. Divers typically follow this impressive wall, exploring a healthy reef adorned with various hard and soft corals, including brain coral and sea fans. Marine life is abundant, with colorful reef fish like parrotfish, angelfish, and surgeonfish. Keep an eye out for frequently spotted turtles and the possibility of encountering a Caribbean Reef Shark patrolling the deeper sections. Moderate currents can be present, especially during the drift, so maintaining good buoyancy control is crucial. Bonaire offers excellent diving conditions year-round, with consistently good visibility.
