Alice in Wonderland (45) is a fantastic shore-accessible dive site located on the western coast of Bonaire, offering a less crowded experience than more popular spots. It's easily found via a marked parking area just before the Cargill sign, with a path leading to a small sandy beach. Entry is convenient, either directly from the shore or by swimming out to a yellow mooring buoy approximately 40 meters from shore.
This site is renowned for its unique double reef system. The first reef section descends gradually from about 7 meters down to around 22 meters, showcasing abundant sponges, hard corals, and soft corals. Beyond this, a sandy patch separates the two reefs, offering further exploration opportunities, including coral bombies in the sand at depths of 24-30 meters. The average depth for the site is 11 meters, with a maximum depth of 22 meters, making it suitable for recreational divers, freedivers, and snorkelers who can enjoy the shallower parts.
Alice in Wonderland boasts rich Caribbean marine life. Divers frequently encounter nurse sharks, reef sharks, stingrays, and a variety of snapper, angelfish, grunts, parrotfish, and grouper. Lucky visitors might also spot eagle rays, turtles, horse-eye jacks, triggerfish, and barracuda. The healthy coral structures support a diverse ecosystem of both large and small marine creatures. Bonaire offers excellent diving conditions year-round, making any time a good time to visit this rewarding site.
