This dive site is the Urabain wreck, an impressive 79-meter-long, 12-meter-wide freezer trawler intentionally sunk after a fire rendered it unseaworthy. Lying heeled on its port side at a maximum depth of 21 meters, divers can explore its exterior and the limited penetration into the engine room. The wreck provides a fascinating artificial reef structure for navigation and offers a glimpse into its industrial past.
The Urabain wreck boasts a diverse array of marine life. The deck side is home to salmon, sea urchins, and sea potatoes, while the hull side offers a greater variety of invertebrates, making it an excellent spot for macro photography and observing smaller creatures.
The Urabain wreck is suitable for intermediate divers and freedivers, with an average depth of approximately 10 meters. The clear waters and rich marine life make for a rewarding experience. As with any wreck dive, proper training and caution are advised, especially when considering the limited penetration into the engine room, and local conditions for cold water should be considered.
